Basic Principles

Mission

The Repatriation and Departure Service directs the actual departure of aliens who have no right to reside in the Netherlands. As a professional implementer of the repatriation policy of the government, the Repatriation and Departure Service takes the lead in making sure that the departure takes place swiftly, carefully, and with dignity. In good cooperation with all other government services involved.

Repatriation and Departure Service also stands for a transparent and humane method of working, with respect for the alien. In this way the Repatriation and Departure Service contributes to safety, social equilibrium and the maintenance of a broad basis for an open and hospitable Netherlands.

Main Duties

As an implementing body, the DT&V is responsible for preparing, promoting and organizing the actual departure from The Netherlands of the following people:

  • Illegal aliens who have been stopped by the Aliens Police or the Royal Marechaussee in connection with the supervision of aliens.
  • Asylum seekers who have exhausted their appeals and are obliged to leave the country, including (formerly) unaccompanied minor aliens.

Goal

In the furtherance of the actual departure, the stimulation of the voluntary departure of the alien is the key goal. If voluntary departure is out of the question, the Repatriation and Departure Service enforces the departure of the alien. In carrying out its tasks, the Repatriation and Departure Service ensures a respectful and humane approach of the alien.
