Important information for people who have fled from Ukraine but do not have Ukrainian citizenship

Did you have a temporary residence permit in Ukraine and do you not have lawful residence in the Netherlands on grounds other than the Temporary Protection Directive (RTB)? Then it is important that you start to prepare your departure.

Since 4 March 2024, you are no longer covered by the RTB. At the time, the state secretary decided to freeze the consequences of this. As a result, you did not yet have to leave the Netherlands. But this freeze will end on 4 September 2025.

Do you not have lawful residence in the Netherlands on other grounds? Then the IND will impose a return decision on you with a departure period of 28 days. This means that you will have four weeks from that time to leave the Netherlands. After that, you will no longer be entitled to stay, provisions and reception in the Netherlands. It is therefore important that you prepare in good time to leave for your country of origin or another country outside the European Union where you can stay permanently.

Practical and financial assistance

When organising your departure, DTenV offers practical and financial assistance. The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) can also provide this assistance. Departure support can include:

  • Advice and information about repatriation and return
  • One-way airline ticket to your country of origin
  • €200 for basic departure support at Schiphol Airport
  • Within 14 working days after return €615 in cash and/or in kind to cover your immediate living needs
  • Assistance in the first year after return for reintegration through a local partner, worth €2000 per adult and €1000 per minor.
Consider long-term housing, career advice and trainings.
