Are you considering going back to Syria? The choice is entirely up to you. DTenV is willing to support you in your return.
For applications received from January 1, 2026, the amounts for return support will be the same as those applicable to other countries of origin.
Please be aware that we only offer support for permanent return. We do not support temporary return, for example for family visits or to pick up belongings.
What assistance do we offer?
DTenV offers the following support:
- We arrange your travel and flight ticket to Syria.
- Syrians with a residence permit or an ongoing procedure receive an amount of €2,800 per adult and €1,650 per minor in cash. Syrians with a return decision will, in principle, receive part of the support in kind through the EURP program. In this case as an adult you will receive €200 at Schiphol Airport for basic departure support and €615 in Syria for post-arrival assistance, as well as reintegration support worth €2,000. Minors with a return decision receive €40 for basic departure support, €615 for post-arrival assistance, and €1,000 for reintegration support.
To be admitted to Syria, you need a valid or expired Syrian passport or a replacement travel document (laissez-passer). If necessary, you can apply for a laissez-passer via DTenV. Please email this application to infosyrie@dtenv.nl stating your name and V-number. DTenV will forward your application to the embassy.
Who can request assistance?
To be eligible for this arrangement, the following conditions apply:
- You do not have dual nationality.
- You have Syrian nationality or can show that you can stay in Syria on a permanent basis.
- You have an asylum or regular residence procedure pending, have a (temporary) residence permit for the Netherlands, or have received a return decision after your residence application was rejected.
In principle, you are not eligible for the increased return support if you:
- have an entry ban of more than 5 years
- have been convicted of a sexual offense, manslaughter, murder, human trafficking, or human smuggling
- are a danger for the national security
- have had your asylum application rejected on the basis of Article 1F of the Refugee Convention
- have left the EU in the past 5 years with the support of DTenV, Frontex, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) or a non-governmental organization (ngo).
How does the procedure work?
There are 4 steps:
1. Submit your application. Fill in the application form on our website that will be available from November 17.
2. Check. DTenV will check whether all the required information has been provided and all the conditions have been met. We will contact you if necessary.
3. Sometimes: an interview. Are you returning as a family, an unaccompanied minor, or a single woman? If so, we will discuss your return with you.
4. We will book your trip to Syria. We cannot tell beforehand how long it takes before you can leave. This depends, among other things, on the number of applications DTenV receives and whether you have a travel document.
Attention: your return is voluntary
Do you choose to leave for Syria voluntarily with our help? If so, this means that you withdraw your asylum application or terminate your residence permit. For this, we will ask you to sign a declaration on the day you are leaving. You can find this declaration on the IND website.
If you have a residence permit, you will sign an IND decision at Schiphol Airport terminating your right of residence. You will also hand in your residence documents there.
Please note:
If you re-enter the Netherlands or the EU the amount may be reclaimed.
